SIENA

SIENA consists of core data (topography, transport network, land cover, population) which build the base of the simulation and contextual data which is added to provide context when carrying out applications with SIENA.

CORE DATA

Core data build the foundation of the simulated urban system on which all other urban data rest. The simulation process of the core data focuses on identifying and quantifying fundamental processes and interdependencies in the structure of urban areas in Great Britain. Twelve cities are chosen as sample cities and their spatial data structure (topography, transport network, land cover) and interactions between these structures and the urban population are statistically analysed. Based on the results of the statistical analysis the core data is modelled using amongst others probabilistic models and GIS functionalities.

CONTEXTUAL DATA

Contextual data is data which is added to provide context when carrying out applications with SIENA. This folder contains some examples already included in SIENA, other application-specific data can be generated or added as needed. Probabilistic models are used to simulate the contextual data.
Proximity to source, emissions and concentrations are often used in epidemiological studies to assess associations between potential environmental exposure and aspects of human health reflecting different points in the environmental-exposure chain.  The contextual data is therefore grouped into these broad categories and other data:
